Quantentheorie" vorgestellt. Der "Geschichten-Zugang" zur
Quantentheorie wird in der Originalliteratur auch als
"consistent histories approach to quantum mechanics" oder als
"decoherent histories approach to quantum mechanics" bezeichnet.
In this thesis some recent results and developments in the history approach to quantum theory are presented. The history approach is also known under the name "consistent histories approach" or "decoherent histories approach" to quantum theory. There exist several competing closely related variants of the consistent histories formulation in the literature. The approach in the present thesis is closest to the approaches of Isham on the one hand and of Omnes and Griffiths on the other hand. It will be discussed in this thesis that the history approach provides a novel way to look upon quantum theories and provides us with a new interpretation of nonrelativistic Hilbert space quantum mechanics. In the first part of this work we will deal with the history formulation of nonrelativistic Hilbert space quantum mechanics. The consistent histories approach is usually formulated using the standard notions of observable and state. We will argue that the natural notion of an observable in quantum mechanics is that of a `positive-operator-valued measure' (POV measure) and will show that the consistent history formalism can be generalized to incorporate POV measures in a natural and simple way. Part I concludes with an attempt to formulate a Lorentz covariant version of the history approach in Minkowski space as a scheme for a quantum theory of events. In the second part of this thesis we will discuss Isham's general quantum history theories and will prove Gleason type classification theorems for decoherence functionals in the case that the space of histories is the set of projection operators on some Hilbert space.
